Online Far Right (Overview)
When I still discussed about the fascist origin of some memes and terms on twitter and elsewhere, I'd usually point people to a couple of threads by @gwensnyderPHL outlining how they came to be. Information on that is not exactly rare, but it is very dispersed, so I was rather happy to have an already structured collection of quite some stuff. Nowadays I'd rather not link to twitter, so I asked @[email protected] whether I could port the stuff to a more reliable platform, and here we are (🤞🏻).
So, these explain some of the history of social media fascist signalling. Part I starts pretty blatant, but they cover quite some far right sub cultures and how they influenced online discourse.
Social media interactions have evolved since then, please look at the information provided in the context of 2019. Some of this stuff doesn't mean much anymore, but most is very recognizable.
Content Warning for all kinds of fascist symbols, and fascist bigotry like explicit antisemitism, racism, misogyny, glorification of violence and so on in the provided examples
Part II (Honkler, Clownworld, Incels, Pilling, NPC, Gamergate)
Part IV (chan culture, 4chan/8chan)
Part V (OK-sign, memetic warfare)
Part Va (failed memetic warfare)
(Note: this is currently a work in progress, I need to add around 2 parts still. Also I don't care much about aesthetics, so be patient with my style. If you think I should add/change stuff, please contact me here: @[email protected])
