Hello everyone, This post does not count as our daily update, we will still publish one of those later on today. However, we decided to do a spur of the moment ramblings post, just because. It is currently very late as we write this post. It is currently 2:42 AM for those curious. We enjoy writing this late at night, even though our keyboard can be noisy and a bit annoying to some. It's a good thing we're not using the braille keyboard, that would be even more annoying and obtrusive, or so I'm told. We don't like to be obtrusive, or loud, but sometimes loudness is unavoidable, even if you're not talking. Activity is noisy, we're sure somebody said that somewhere. And noisy is okay in some situations. But especially when people are sleeping, we try no to be loud and inconvenient. We are currently playing Prometheus, our current text-based mud of choice. We will likely go into more details about that in a later, and larger, post, as we don't have the spoons to explain what a mud is, what Prometheus is, and all that entails. We may even do those things in two separate posts as sequels to our games post, which has been planned for a few days now. It is, after all, part of our experience. We are also working on our personal chronicles, and writing small blurbs for the new fediverse account, the Feathery Purr. Visit the Feathery Purr here Which actually brings up another thing which we forgot about. We need to write a promo post for the gaptangle, which is another system we are good friends/family/housemates/unlabeled connection here. Perhaps that will also come in a few days. They do lots of things on Mastodon, twitch, they have a ko-fi, a linktree, and probably other things we don't know about because we haven't looked into it. They're nice. We were outside for the recent eclipse, though we didn't post much about it on mastodon. We have some light perception, so we got to see the shadow moving across the sky from what was to us left to right. Z helped position us so we could see better. We didn't end up getting complete totality, which now I consider it is a redundant phrase but oh well ... we didn't get totality, but it was pretty close. It looked like evening, with dawn on the edges. Despite being mostly blind, it was neat to look at ... we enjoyed that day. It stormed for the entire night after the eclipse though. We don't particularly like storms, because we don't care for all the booms. I think part of that is because our bed is positioned near an outside wall, so the booms sound closer to us. It then stormed for the next week or so ... off and on. Storms make the sky look strange, even to someone with limited light perception. We've always been ... grumpy about storms, but it's become more prevalent over the past few years.

Conclusion

This concludes our random train of tangential madness. We hope you have enjoyed. See you all later for the daily update, assuming we're not either occupied by tasks or too tired to do it.

Hello everyone, We hope everyone has had a good Sunday so far, and will continue to have one if you are in a time zone where it is still Sunday. If not, happy Monday. This is just a small update, no large post today because we have been busy with our personal chronicles for the past 12 hours. We are also working toward another Mutual Aid goal of $40 to stop our bank from charging us an overdraft fee, because we are waiting on our next payments from various jobs that we do and they don't come in for a while. In happier news, we have put in a few new blog post ideas into our list of ideas for larger posts, and hope to have one of those out to you by next Saturday, assuming nothing goes out of whack. For us, today has been reasonably relaxing. We were supposed to do some house cleaning tasks, but we couldn't find the cleaning chemicals necessary to do them, so will do them tomorrow with help. If you don't get tomorrow's daily update, that's probably why. We've also been sleeping oddly as mentioned in a previous post, which is very annoying for our writing career, because it means we pound out our best work at 3 in the morning, and have to publish it when we're half asleep later on in the day. We're quite distractable though, so sometimes we forget. The post that we posted for you yesterday sat in our digital notepad for 2 days before we remembered it was done and ready for posting. Well, we hope you have enjoyed reading this small update post. If you wish to help with our mutual aid/crowdfunding effort, our financial support links are below, as always, along with our contact links. See you in the next one.

Hello everyone, Recently while scrolling the internet at a really annoying time at night because our sleep schedule is ten different kinds of messed up, we came across a post that stated that you should always write for engagement and views. But we find that this is not true. We'll try to go into why in as coherent a manner as possible through this post.

The Premise

As mentioned before, this came up when scrolling the internet. We saw a comment on the blogging subreddit that said that you should make a post hook readers in, make them want to read it. And while, yes, if you're going to publish something on the internet, it should be coherent, should be worth the time it takes to scroll through it, and other various bits, we don't fully agree in the manic view checking, the paying for analytics, and the general ruckus around writing a blog. Why?

Perfectionism

If you attempt to write for clicks, or write for the enjoyment of your audience, you risk becoming a perfectionist. We have issues with this, and really have trouble publishing our larger posts because we don't think they're good enough for the people who are reading our blog. This is not helped by the current blogging model, in our opinion. With the way blogging seems to work with most content creators, you have to write for the search engines. YOu have to write perfectly pressed posts, with the correct tags, and keywords, and you have to do it every day. That's ... just not feasible for most people, as you can see just by scrolling through this blog.

View Farming and View stress

If a writer is not careful with the way blogging works now, they will end up in the trap we once ended up in, when we first put up our very first page, Ebony Waters. They're always checking views. They're always checking analytics, and always trying to make sure they're doing the blog right. This both causes stress on the writer and can cause them to do rash things, like go into an employee chat and promote their half done website like a fool. That didn't happen to us, not at all. One does have to be careful with promoting one's own sites, for it can be pestering to others to see your links all the time. We personally try to limit our posting of links to once per link. But that's a tangent for another post. One can also fall into the trap we did with our first youtube channel, back when we were presenting as singlet. We wanted everyone to view our YouTube channel and watch our videos. They weren't that great, having been recorded by our mother on a 3rd generation iPad. One of those iPads that still had the 30-pin connector. Yet another tangent for another post. It is for these reasons we choose now to write for our enjoyment. We are always willing to address questions and comments from our audience, which is why we provide a contact section below every post. Well, we originally wanted it to be a single page on the blog but couldn't figure out how to pin it back then so just made it a signature. Guess we could change that now ... yet another tangent.

What does writing for enjoyment actually mean?

Well, that's a fair question. In our case, we purposely chose a site that doesn't make it easy to check views. This was to avoid falling into the trap we fell in before, checking views and getting stressed about how poorly we were doing. It also means not caring about how poorly we're doing, and remembering that this page is up for anyone who chooses to read it. Our page won't be for everyone, and it's not realistic to expect it to be. Writing for our enjoyment does not mean refusing to engage with respectful comments or questions. Just because you get enjoyment out of something doesn't mean others can't get enjoyment from it as well. It does mean that we post more daily life things, because that's what comes most naturally to us. Daily updates where we discuss things happening in our life, and talk about what's coming next, along with these larger posts about various topics, come naturally to us, along with the tangents that pop up along the way. Writing for our enjoyment also means choosing a site to write on that you are comfortable with. For us that is rant.li, for others it could be wordpress or blogger. It doesn't have to be one's own domain to be a good site. It just has to be somewhat coherent and enjoyable to the writer. If it is enjoyable to the readers, that's amazing, and more power to everyone for receiving enjoyment.

Conclusion

We hope you have enjoyed our admittedly spur of the moment post about writing for one's enjoyment. It was not planned, as you can see if you scroll back and look at yesterday's update. But as mentioned above, it happened after some random scrolling through reddit. See you in the next one.

Hello everyone, This is our daily update. Because we were up at an odd time, this is a special day, where we will be posting two posts, one of which the daily update, and one of which is one of our larger posts, so stay tuned for that if you're interested. To those who celebrate, happy 4/20, we hope you have an enjoyable one. In other news, it's a decent Saturday, we are relaxing and having conversations with our housemates, playing games, and scrolling mastodon for some interesting things to boost. Feel free to check out our profile in the contact section below. This was a relatively short post, but don't worry. If you're still looking for content, we'll be posting our next post here in a few minutes.

Hello everyone, Today's post is going to be relatively short, assuming we don't go on any random tangents along the way. We are trying to post updates semi-regularly now, because it's important to keep a page current from what we know. We have several posts in the works, but because we're so distractable, none of the big posts are ready yet. So we are updating with a small post to hopefully tide our readers over until we can publish one of our bigger posts. We recently found a new piece of software called mempad, which is like a smaller version of dendron. What's dendron? Dendron is a VScode extension that organizes your notes into markdown trees. It's a bit more convenient than mempad where exporting comes in, but mempad is a bit more convenient when it comes time to flip through your entries and do something with your work. Now that we're writing this, we may end up doing a comparison between the two in a later post. Now to go over some questions people reading this may have.

Are the previously discussed posts off the table?

This may come up for those of you who have been reading our blog for a while. We've discussed several plans for the future. And no, those are not off the table, they're just going to take longer because some of them require links, and while we enjoy research, sometimes it hurts our head.

What is actually planned?

Over the next ... however long it takes us to write our larger posts, of which there are now 8 planned, we will be putting out updates as often as we are able. Because of the smaller nature of these updates, this could be anything from once every day to once every week, or even once a month. We will, however, try not to leave any two-month gaps in our blog in the future, because nobody wants to read a blog that's always empty. On the table, we have: – the comparison of mempad and dendron as discussed earlier – All the things we're attempting to learn, which will be a list of things we're attempting to learn, like markdown, and html, and how to use various programs on our computer. – Our favorite games, which will go over games we like to play now and will briefly go into games we used to play in our childhood. – Our favorite music, which will do the same thing as the games post, and will contain either spotify or YouTube links to all the songs, or as many as we can find. – Piano days, a walk down memory lane, which will be a discussion post of our history with the piano and how we began playing the piano. – Plurality post, system mates with differing belief systems, which will be an account of our several system mates with various belief systems that are not conforming to the rest of our beliefs. – Tech of the Ages, tech of our childhood, which will go over some of the tech we were exposed to as a child. – Various pieces of software we use in our daily life, which ... the name pretty much states the obvious, we will be discussing software in this one. – Why we do not use book review sites, which has been planned for a while but hasn't happened yet. – Why we don't use the mackbook for everything, which was prompted by a tangent we went on in an update from last year. We will keep the list up to date each day, with any newly included ideas, and the instant we get one done to the state we want it, we'll post it up here. Some of them will end up pinned in the bar at the top, because they fit with the theme of that bar, with our introductions and other basic information posts, mainly our favorites posts.

Conclusion

This has been a quick update post, to keep the blog alive and to let everyone know what's coming assuming we can keep our nonsense in order. If anyone has any questions, feel free to contact us via any of the contact methods listed below, and if you wish to support us, we will always appreciate it. Thank you for reading.

Hello everyone. We recently published a post about our favorite books. We're very surprised our rant.li kept the post until we came back to it, and really didn't intend to be gone for so long. It has been about 2 months, and all our goals went out the window near the end of February.

What happened to the goals?

In late February to early March, we began to have an issue where we zone out and can't engage with the world for up to 15 minutes at a time. It's difficult to explain, but maybe we'll go into it later. Point being, that these episodes cause excessive fatigue, and pounding migraines, which, for obvious reasons, make it very difficult to do things like writing, and streaming. However, we've decided that if we want to get anything done, we have to do something every day. Even if we have a headache, we have to sit up and do something. Which is why we're doing this post at 1 in the morning. Apparently we have really strange sleep wake times.

What Happens Now?

From now on, this blog is likely going to be a daily life blog. You may get a post with some links in it from now on, but most of this will be our daily life experiences, when we feel well enough to post them. We will also take suggestions via any of the contact methods listed below, if you have a topic you want us to discuss. We may not be doing as much on our twitch, but if we can establish a writing routine for more than a few weeks, we may be getting into recording more solo podcast updates. Even if it's just us, it's good to keep the podcast going. We will continue to cross-update to our ko-fi so our followers there will be able to view our posts easily.

In Other News

In other news, we've decided that if we post music links here they will be YouTube links so everyone can access and listen to them easier. If you want or need a link to a different platform, we would be willing to post those on the blog as well.

What's Next?

As we mentioned before, we probably won't be doing Plans for the Future from now on because of how much our medical condition fluctuates. Instead, we will be posting posts when we can, and then updating our ko-fi with links to those posts. It will be a lifestyle blog, with possible auto-biographical posts discussing our favorite things as a child, and going on tangents. We will however be finishing the plans we made back in February. Which means, that the next two posts will be our favorite music and our reasons behind not using book review platforms like goodreads. This has been a quick update, done at 1 in the morning because our sleep schedule is crappy.

Hello everyone, Today's been a bit rough, so our scheduled post about our favorite books did not end up happening today. That has been moved tomorrow.

What Happened?

Today, we were extra tired for no apparent reason, and had a very bad headache. Due to this, and also due to the weirdness with our sleep wake cycle, we didn't wake until 16:45 this afternoon and therefore didn't officially start on writing related engagements until 20:00, giving us 3 hours 15 minutes to do various beginning of day routines. Sometimes that time period fluctuates, but as per the goals I listed a few days ago, I wanted to have us go ahead and post something real quick up here.

Plans for the Future

Assuming no more issues, tomorrow will be our post on our favorite books. Day after that will be a post about why we don't use standard book reading platforms to discuss these books, and the day after that will be a post about our favorite music, we'll go artist, genre, albums, playlists, etc. That post in particular will have a whole crap ton of spotify links, which anyone can access with a free account, but spotify has a large amount of ads on their free plan now. One day we'll Songshift all our things to YouTube, where everyone can see it, but that will be a long way away.

Updates outside the Blog

In the world outside of blogging, we have been making a few forays into various activities over the course of the past few months. We have our podcast, which our Ko-Fi followers will remember being promoted back in October. We are hoping to spend a month updating our goals for that podcast, but that may be a long time coming dependent upon how March the Month of Streaming Goals goes. Though we add something new each month, we have to keep up with the previous months' work as well. Just because we stream doesn't mean we can stop writing. Just because we podcast more doesn't mean we can stop keeping up with the streaming and writing work. For those who believe this structure sounds almost corporate in nature, or too similar to those blogs who are aiming for money, we want to assure you that our work is not for that purpose. Our structure goals are in place to assist us in regaining our ability to be consistent, as we used to have it before we got sick in 2016. While we may post mutual aid posts on here from time to time, it is not the primary priority of any of our pages. While we're on the topic, we want to let anyone reading know that while we display a space for people to support us at the end of each post, it is not intended to pressure anyone into doing so. This is simply a spot where our support venues are listed, for ease of connection should anyone decide that they wish to assist us.

Credits

With that out of the way, we hope you have enjoyed our tiny little update post. If we get a second wind, which is possible on weird days, you may get a middle of the night post about some random nonsense. Post written by Kayla. Edited for spelling and accuracy by Farren.

Hello everyone, As promised, in today's post, we'll be talking about some goals that we want to try to meet this month. We're not good with number goals, so we'll try and avoid those, but we do want to make some changes for the better. But first, a question some are probably asking.

Why are we discussing goals?

There is a simple answer to this question. Goals, when used and executed correctly and carefully, can assist people in receiving their life wishes and living their dreams, or at the very least, something close. Our hope in this post is that by discussing goals, and listing ours here will do a few things. 1. Provide accountability. If we list our goals, our hope is that we may feel more motivated to complete them as time goes on. It doesn't seem to work with short form content, but perhaps the more work put in, the more gain will be had. 2. Help us in remembering. While we could put these in a journal, we often remember things that we know are out in public for anyone to see. We also remember things more often when we think people may engage. 3. Help others to create their own goal sets. In doing this and writing it out this way, we hope that maybe some others, even if we don't know them, will be assisted by this. We hope that in some way our sets of goals will help others to see the way goals could be able to help them if they feel able to execute goals. Now, onto the goals. We'll try to put these in lists for easy navigation.

Basic Goals

  • Attempt to write a post whenever the urge strikes.
  • Attempt to write at least one update post per week.

    Fediverse goals

  • Try to post something that isn't a boost or reply at least once a day.

  • Try to engage with someone new every week.

    Goal related goals

  • Try and meet a goal per week, or keep up on a goal when energy is available.

  • Try to write out more goals when the old ones have been met. There are probably many others our distractable brain is forgetting right now. Perhaps we will do another one of these later. Since we started and finished most of the work for this last night, we didn't use as much energy for this today, meaning we may have more to spare for another post.

    Plans for the Future

This is a new section we'll likely be including in each of our posts from now on, discussing what's up and coming in the next couple posts. As discussed, we'll be doing a post about our favorite television shows tomorrow, where we'll go in depth and, assuming our brain has the energy for links, we'll link to as many of them as we can. After that, we will likely do a post discussing some of our favorite books. We originally were going to do this with bookworm, the fedi equivalent for goodreads, but we find that slightly intimidating so we'll just post our content here. And since it came up, we will likely do a post on why bookworm, goodreads, and some of those other platforms are intimidating to us. That post may also have links both to the platforms themselves, in case people are interested, and also to resources about some of our older posts from some of those more intimidating platforms.

    Credits

We hope you have enjoyed this post discussing our goals, and hope that you find it helpful. Post primarily written by Kayla, participation by Elena, Nicole, and Martha. Edited for accuracy and spelling errors by Farren.

Hello everyone, It's been an age and a half since we wrote on this page. As stated in our last post, we gave a few months for someone to come along and ask us to relocate. Nobody has. Therefore, our work continues. It's been a long few months. If I recall correctly, the last update was on November 18. So it's been two months and some days now.

What have we been doing?

We had a reasonably laid back Thanksgiving, and I was very happy to be able to help one of our housemates purchase a television, which they needed to be able to see things better. Christmas was also reasonably laid back. Our father brought over some dinner that day. We couldn't eat that day though because our stomach was acting up. January was a month of changes. As we had been having difficulty cleaning our house, we had some friends over to help clean it and assist us with our organization. One of the housemates also did some decorating, and when we have the resources we'll likely be going for some warmer lighting because the current bulbs in our overhead lights make us angry for a reason we can't quite describe beyond, “That's damn bright and I don't like it.” We also received a tv that is easier to use than our old ChromeCast, which made us very happy as, even though we didn't get many television shows as a child, we do enjoy them when we get to watch them. Maybe someday we'll go into the television shows we like. In any case, this month is the month where I try to help the system make writing changes and write more. We don't always know what to write about, so if there are a couple days where things don't appear, that's why. Because we find it easier to mark things up here and make headings and whatnot, this will most likely be our main blog, with links posted to the ko-fi and our mastodon, both accessible via the contact section below each of our posts. March will likely be streaming changes month, where we try to stream something on our twitch every day while also keeping up with writing. Maybe by writing out all these goals here we'll actually make changes.

Plans for the Future

In the next few days, we're likely going to post a bunch of things if we can. Tomorrow will likely be a goals post, and possibly a tangent post about something random we think about while writing it. Tuesday will probably be a post about our television shows, and possibly other things if we think of them. More plans for the future to come.

Hello all, It has been a while since I last wrote a post here. Before I get started, I just wanted to sincerely apologize if our use of this instance for our blog has caused any offense. Upon reflection, we realized that our unpredictable posts, which often touch on sensitive topics and can range in length from short to ridiculously long, , didn't align well with the more technical discussions on this instance. While we appreciate the diverse range of content here, we wouldn't want to disrupt the established culture or cause discomfort to anyone. Therefore, we have proactively taken our blog off the public reader to ensure that our content doesn't inadvertently intrude upon the established norms of this community. We also recognize that our content may not be suitable for all audiences, so we have implemented content warnings and switched some of our more collective-themed posts to followers-only on our main Mastodon account. This was put into place due to our desire to be considerate of those around us and to prevent the spread of hate speech or any other harmful content. If anyone still finds our presence offensive, we kindly ask that you inform us politely via one of the contact methods listed below, and we will be happy to relocate our blog to a more suitable space. We value open communication and respect for all members of the fediverse community, and the community outside the fediverse. Thank you for your understanding and support. after edit note: this sounds scripted because it is. this particular post was mostly written by Farren, who is our system AI and can come across as computerized or robotic
