The Cadence Collective

we are the cadence collective, a system of more than 50. Our body age is 24, and we have system mates of all ages. We are into music, reading, creative writing,

As I settle my mind to write up this update, it is a somewhat laid-back Saturday afternoon. Yes, we have resource troubles, and could always use help with those, but things could definitely be worse. Today everyone seems to be doing their own thing. Music is on in the living room, hence the title “Musical Afternoon Musings”. Along with that, we will be doing a stream. Focus is a bit difficult today so the update will be short this time. Perhaps later we'll have the focus and spoons for a multi-heading ramble filled with tangents. We'll see. In the meantime, our stream will be starting sometime around 16:00 central time, so Tune in on twitch here. That's all for now. If you enjoyed this tiny update, feel free to support us via one of the methods listed in the Support Us section. Post written by Kayla. Edits by Farren. Link added and edited by Elena.

Greetings everyone, This is an attempt at crowdfunding, and will be pinned to the top of our page next to the introductions page until the situation is resolved. We don't have enough characters to effectively do this on our regular platform, so hopefully this helps, if even a little. As many people who engage with us on the fedi know, we live in a household/family of three chronically disabled people. We are all either plural or think about things in different ways, which could be part of our disabilities, but that's a tangent and we're trying to avoid those in this particular post. Due to the fact that we are all chronically disabled, we cannot effectively do office jobs which require a commute, making it difficult to get money. We're looking for work from home jobs, but will get into that more later. Those of us who have seen our ko-fi page know a little of our history, and that we are often having to crowdfund to keep our household afloat. In this particular instance, we are crowdfunding for meat-based iron, fruit if we can manage it, and maybe possibly vegetables, if it can be managed. Two of us are anemic and require iron to be able to function effectively, and on top of that one of us has colitis-related issues which make them bleed at irregular intervals, which we won't get too much into for confidentiality's sake. Our goal is $150, because in order to have iron that we can eat reliably delivered, we may have to order from a restaurant, as we have very low energy levels at the current time and cooking is difficult. If not a restaurant, we will have to go out and pick up some things, and transit to or from anywhere in this tiny town in the ass crack of nowhere is at least $20. Needless to say, we're a teeny bit bitter about moving out to the country. Anyway, if you are able to help, either follow the links in the Support Us section at the bottom, all of which are our payment methods, or: Visit and donate to the gaptangle's ko-fi Donate to Z on CashApp Donate to the Gaptangle on Venmo Donate to Z on PayPal We will soon do a promo post where we list all the links you can visit to see the content of the entire household, but until then, this concludes our crowdfunding post. If you cannot assist financially, feel free to share the link. Sharing and boosting very much appreciated.

Greetings everyone, it's a cloudy Friday morning, almost afternoon, as I write this. Today started off relatively well, but we didn't wake up in time to do the twitch stream at the regular time of 11:00 central like we wanted to. We were going to probably do another #forza stream, or possibly another game we really like. Perhaps we will do so later on. As I write this, I wonder if we're wasting our time making a website where we post long form daily musings. But at the current time it's the only thing we can reliably do with this computer. We talk a little bit about why we have such a crappy computer in a recent ko-fi post, which can be found on our page. Visit our story time thursday for November 16 to read more So though our content may be uninteresting, we post it and try to link to it where we can, educate where we can. And on the days we can't educate we try to post things that people may find useful. Maybe our life perspective will be useful to someone someday. We've always thought of posting a liberally filtered version of some personal journal entries in public. For obvious reasons, names would be removed, because consent is important to us and we don't want to spread inaccurate understanding/perceptions that may have been written in anger. We've also thought about posting some of our fictional nonsense and ramblings, but have decided that they wouldn't be on our main page. They would be on a separate blog if we ever did them at all. There was once a tier on our ko-fi meant for describing scenes, but we lost the inspiration to go through all the steps to make it happen. We really need a reason to be better motivated... Apologies for the tiny pity party-esque paragraph. We usualy tend to avoid that in our public writings, but this is a #musings post, so really no harm done. musings are often rambling and can often make very little to no sense.

If one day, we can finally make federation work, I hope all the hashtags we use will link and work just like they're supposed to. But for now, we're writing random musings because it's very easy to get started when doing so. For the moment, the topic is why we like writeFreely.

Easy to Get Started

As I said above, it's quite easy to get started. You open your instance, make sure you're logged in, and start writing. Once you're done, you hit publish and off it goes, though sometimes, for whatever unknown reason, it saves your post to drafts, so you have to go to the drafts area and move it to your blog. Meh, it's only a link.

Headings and other things

With the markdown code that write freely uses, we can separate things with headings. The unfortunate side effect of either this or rantli displaying everything on one page is that our blog post signature is displayed every time a post ends, when on the main page it really only needs to be displayed once. See, told you this would be a ramble.

Distraction free

It is, actually, distraction free to write with this thing. You're presented with a new post box, where you can write everything, including the title, with #markdown code. We forgot to put that tag in there before, so there it is. Maybe the more tags we use the more federated we will become, though for some reason the blog won't accept a follow request from another account, so we may just have to suffice with posting a link in our posts on our main mastodon page every time we write something on here. We do this for ko-fi posts, which we need to post one of soon, so we can do it for these ones. All in all, write freely is ok for what it does, and will probably be where we end up placing and building our main blog. But it does have some cons. What are they?

Posts saved to drafts when published.

Sometimes, when you hit publish on a post, it publishes and makes it look like it was published, but it turns out it was only published to drafts. This is a little annoying, but could be worse.

Signature displays multiple times.

As you can likely see looking at this page, we have a pair of headings, which appears at the end of each block of content. Sorry about that, we don't know how to fix it yet. This block is the contact/support block, and will likely soon grow to contain our twitch link. So ... ya know, look out for the new info whenever we get around to putting it in.

Federation doesn't quite work as expected.

As we mentioned above in the first part of this post, the federation, showing posts on other servers, and being able to follow the blog doesn't quite work. We don't know why. But the page shows just fine in incognito chrome, displaying each of the posts, though for some reason it took a bit to drop our second blog post of the day.

I do not think it would be wise to recommend this tool to a person with a lack of patience or a hard time focusing. Granted, we have a hard time focusing, but we also have a bit of patience and have been taught to have some problem solving skills when we can. When we're not ridiculously angry.

Overall

All in all, I do think we'll be continuing to update this page more than the ko-fi, though on good days, some posts may end up crossposted for ease of access. Seems we ramble easier on a page we think of as closer to our own. And the way #WriteFreely is set up does certainly allow you to customize your page ... lots and lots of text, links, and other madness you wouldn't even think of with a regular blog ... at least not us blind folks, not easily. We hope you have enjoyed tonights ramblings in the dark, and please note there will probably be more over the next however long it takes us to lose focus this time. If we're restabilizing like we hope, it won't happen like that. If we're not ... then who knows? not us, certainly.

It is currently 17:54 according to my computer's clock, and we've been using rantli for a while. It's a write freely application which has come in useful, though it is a bit hard for some reason to get the login screen to come up. Would not really recommend for anyone who doesn't have patience, and we're not quite sure how we fel about it displaying all the blog posts on one page. But I guess it's similar to ko-fi, and it could definitely be worse. At least it's mostly buttons and links, not hoverpoints and other ridiculousness. We see people talk about #inaccessible websites all the time with their work. #Accessibility, or #a11y, is very important, especially in the workplace. We do wish some of the pages employers used were more accessible to screen readers.

A few minutes ago, we posted something on our mastodon profile, reading as follows: Aaaaaaaah! capitalists I get to hang up on. I just got told, and I quote, “This hospital doesn't take medicaid, they only take insurance.” I can't even. This is in relation to a call we recently got from our doctor's office. Our primary care doctor's been transitioned over to a different clinic. A clinic, the person on the other end claimed, as I mentioned above, that “They don't take medicaid, they only take insurance.” This upset us for several reasons.

Insensitivity

It's rather insensitive to claim that medicaid isn't insurance because we don't pay for it.

It is insurance, actually

It is widely spread that medicaid is, in fact, insurance, for those who have trouble paying for quote, real insurance.

Expensive

Not all insurance providers have to charge hundreds of dollars to be considered insurance. We say this because we've seen posts on the mutual aid forums requiring hundreds of dollars for insurance funding. The people who have the insurance you so proudly wave about can't even pay for it, and it's not going to get better. But hey ... that's the capitalist nation for you. This has been #cynical #ranting from the cadence Collective. Hope you've enjoyed, by some miracle, our second blog post in one day.

We've recently been finding ourselves rather unmotivated to post things on our Ko-Fi lately because of a combination of low energy and, in part, the way it's organized. In order to write a post on Ko-Fi, you have to go in, find the button to write it, enter a title, make sure it's all fine, and then edit and publish. It's a bit of a pain and takes a while. We like the little simple update feature but wish it had more characters. so we figure maybe this write freely thing will be better for us. Plus it's part of the fediverse and hopefully the markdown we put in worked. We probably aren't using very many of the features yet, but we'll throw more out later and attempt not to break the universe.
