(Enter Nurse Sarah and Dr. David)
Nurse Sarah: Good morrow, Dr. David. How art thou this morn?
Dr. David: I am well, Nurse Sarah. And thou?
Nurse Sarah: I have come with news. A new physician, Dr. Juliet, hath arrived from Verona.
Dr. David: Verona? A physician from Verona? Methinks she shall bring new life to our hospital.
(Enter Dr. Juliet)
Dr. Juliet: Good morrow, Drs. David and Sarah. I am Dr. Juliet, here to serve in Shortland Street.
Dr. David: Welcome, Dr. Juliet. Thou bringeth with thee a freshness and vigor.
Nurse Sarah: Aye, 'tis true. We shall learn much from thee.
Dr. Juliet: I shall do my utmost to assist ye. But I have heard rumors of a love triangle between ye.
Dr. David: Nay, good Dr. Juliet. 'Tis but idle gossip.
Nurse Sarah: Aye, 'tis true. Let us attend to our patients.

Act II, Scene I: The Hospital Ward
(Enter Nurse Sarah, Dr. David, and Dr. Juliet)
Nurse Sarah: Behold, a patient hath taken ill.
Dr. David: I shall attend to him.
Dr. Juliet: Nay, good Dr. David. I shall tend to him.
Dr. David: Thou art most kind, Dr. Juliet.
(Exit Dr. David)
Nurse Sarah: Thou hast captured the heart of Dr. David, good Dr. Juliet.
Dr. Juliet: Nay, good Nurse Sarah. I have come to Shortland Street for naught but the love of medicine.
Nurse Sarah: Perchance, but love shall find thee.
(Exit Nurse Sarah)
Act III, Scene I: The Hospital Courtyard
(Enter Nurse Sarah and Dr. David)
Nurse Sarah: Good morrow, Dr. David. What news hast thou?
Dr. David: I have declared my love for Dr. Juliet.
Nurse Sarah: And how dost thou fair?
Dr. David: She hath not yet returned my affection.
Nurse Sarah: Perchance, she doth love another.
(Enter Dr. Juliet)
Dr. Juliet: Good morrow, Drs. David and Sarah.
Dr. David: Good morrow, Dr. Juliet. I must speak with thee.
Dr. Juliet: Aye, speak thy mind.
Dr. David: I love thee, Dr. Juliet. Wilt thou be mine?
Dr. Juliet: Aye, Dr. David. I shall be thine.

Epilogue
(Enter the Chorus)
Chorus: And so, two hearts are joined as one.
In Shortland Street, love hath won.

Hospital Director: Good morrow, all. I have called ye here to announce a new policy.
Nurse Sarah: What is this new policy, good Director?
Hospital Director: 'Tis a rule forbidding romances between hospital staff.
Dr. David: What? This cannot be!
Dr. Juliet: How shall we continue our love?
Hospital Director: Ye must put aside thy feelings, for the good of the hospital.
Nurse Sarah: But love is a powerful thing.
Hospital Director: Aye, 'tis true. But the hospital must come first.
(Exit Hospital Director)
Act V, Scene I: The Hospital Courtyard
(Enter Nurse Sarah, Dr. David, and Dr. Juliet)
Nurse Sarah: What shall ye do? Thy love is forbidden.
Dr. David: I know not. My heart aches for Dr. Juliet.
Dr. Juliet: And mine for Dr. David. But we must abide by the rules.
Nurse Sarah: Perchance, ye can find a way to be together.
Dr. David: Aye, 'tis true. We shall find a way.

Epilogue

Chorus: And so, two hearts shall fight for love.
In Shortland Street, their battle shall prove.

Dr. David: I have found a way for us to be together.
Dr. Juliet: Aye, 'tis true. We shall resign from the hospital and open our own clinic.
Nurse Sarah: And what of the hospital?
Dr. David: Our love shall not harm the hospital. We shall serve our patients just as we always have.
Dr. Juliet: Aye, 'tis true. And we shall continue to love and care for one another.
Nurse Sarah: Thou art wise, Drs. David and Juliet. Thy love shall flourish.
