I didn't expect to be back here today. I honestly expected that I'd be busy ... and I probably should be. But there's not really shit I can do about any of this right now ... except what I'm already doing. Besides, I promised you guys I'd come back with something more positive. And ... actually I have that something, and it's probably something everyone already knows, but I didn't ... because ... well ... I'm rather used to things running in a certain way. You probably don't know what that means ... and that's okay. I don't write well when stressed.

What the Hell am I Talking About?

Today, I finally figured out how federation with this blog works. When I first started this blog, I couldn't figure out why in the world I could see the user profile for my blog but never see any of the blog's posts through my mastodon. It .. erm ... turns out you have to follow the blog's user profile, or whatever it's officially called, to get the posts. So in order for me to get my own posts, I ended up having to follow myself. How do comments work? I ... actually don't know. I'm probably going to talk to myself for a bit and see how that works. Until now, I've never had a way to share the blog's user profile.

The Annoying Part

The ... unfortunate ... part is that when rant.li posts my posts in a way mastodon can read them, it posts them ... in full. Meaning that my giant rambles, neatly separated by headings, read on mastodon like a large, very huge, enormous pile of annoyance. Well ... maybe that's just my opinion. So ... for those of you reading, if you want to subscribe to getting over 10000 character dumps into your mastodon feed at completely random times, here's the strangely complicated process. Actually, there's really two ways to do it.

Method 1.

Follow the blog account when I boost it. Yes, despite how ... convoluted it may be, I will be boosting the blog with my main mastodon account. So if you follow me there, you should theoretically be able to follow the blog when you see me boosting it.

Method 2.

If you can't or don't see the blog posts being boosted from my main account, you would want to do the following. Go on your instance's website. At the top is a search box, search for [email protected] ... and it will provide you results. The profile you're looking for will show the same bio that shows at the top of the main blog page.

Since to a lot of you these may start appearing as normal posts, please feel free to leave comments. I don't know if I'll see them, but if you haven't gotten a response within 48 hours, feel free to bug me on my main mastodon. And with that, I am out of here for the time being.
