Marks and Spencer Ladies Jumpers and Cardigans

The high street is brimming with new knitwear options to take you through autumn and winter, whether you're after a classic roll neck jumper for work or a cosy cardigan that will liven up weekend loungewear. And if it's style inspiration you're after, there's no better place to look than Marks and Spencer. The brand has been pulling in cosy winter staples to suit a range of price points, with neutral options and bold hoodies making up our favourites.

We're not the only fans of M&S' ribbed cardigans, with Kate Middleton seen rewearing her Holland Cooper fair isle design on Christmas day last year. She wore the PS179 jumper with jeans as she narrated The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark for CBeebies' Bedtime Stories TV show. I put the piece to knitwear experts and they all agreed it looked great – the colour was a good choice, the knitting was well-constructed and the style was versatile enough to work with jeans or a skirt. They also praised the fabric, which is described as having a ‘cashmere-like’ feel and is made with extra fine merino wool (18 microns, compared to the 18 microns of John Smedley's equivalent), and said it had excellent drape, meaning it kept its shape and was super soft wash after wash.

The label's oversized ribbed knits have garnered a dedicated following, too, with the sibling duo of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen wearing the brand on everything from casual weekends to travel. But it's not all about cashmere – the brand has been experimenting with recycled and ethical yarns, too. Marks and Spencer Ladies Jumpers and Cardigans
