Tobacco from A to Z. Part 2.

Greetings to lovers of delicious tobacco. In the second part, we will talk to you about mixtures. If you have any comments, want to share your experience, I look forward to your comments. Pack you pipe, we're getting started.

Mixes

When you search for information on pipe blends, you will see that they are generally divided into three types, an example in the picture below. Blend type

I would divide not into three types, but into two:

Next, I will explain why I share this way. Disagree – welcome to the comments.

Aromatic

There isn't much to say about these blends – they are artificially flavored tobacco made by adding syrup, flavoring (artificial or natural) and/or sugar. The main types of tobacco used in aromatic blends are: Cavendish, Burley, Virginia, but others can also be used, for example – a blend of “Two Friends: English Chocolate”, in which we can observe such tobaccos as: Virginia and Latakia flavored with chocolate.

The range of tastes offered by these mixtures is simply huge: – Vanilla – Bourbon – Maple Syrup – Apple – Chocolate

This list can be continued for a long time, but be sure you will pick up the one that you like.

It can be either a mono taste or a mixture of tastes – for example, the taste of vanilla and chocolate.

Non-Aromatic (Natural)

In the picture below you can see all the main types of tobacco mixes.

Blend type

Now let's try to deal with each type separately.

Virginia

Burley – See American.

Cavendish – Based on first part, may consist of Burley, Virginia with addition Perique or without.

Oriental / Latakia

The oldest type of pipe tobacco blend, originating in England and Scotland many centuries ago and characterized by the use of Oriental and Latakia tobaccos. Later they began to add Virginia, Perique, getting a fuller body and a stronger taste and aroma. Why don’t I single out the type of mixture separately – England, but everything is simple if it consists of Latakia, and Latakia, as we remember from the first part is a processing process that does not include the addition of flavors, syrup, etc. You can say that fuming is flavoring, right? But I would still separate fuming and adding flavoring.

American

Determining what an American tobacco blend is and what tobaccos it is made of is especially tricky because its definition is so vague. American blend will consist predominantly of Burley tobacco base.

Cigar leaf

As the name implies, this type of mix contains a cigar leaf. Other types of tobacco in this mix may be different. An example is “Cornell & Diehl – Billy Budd”, which includes: Burley, Cigar Leaf, Latakia & Virginia.

Other

Everything else that does not fall under these types.

Notes

Based on the above, you can try to make your own mixture. Just by buying the type of tobacco you need. Experiment!!
