Tobacco from A to Z. Part 3.
Greetings to lovers of delicious tobacco. In the third part, we will talk to you about cutting tobacco. If you have any comments, want to share your experience, I look forward to your comments. Pack you pipe, we're getting started.
In this most boring and uninteresting part, in my opinion, we will consider the types of tobacco cutting. The cutting of tobacco affects several factors on burn rate, packaging complexity, and aging potential.
Ribbon
Ribbon – is the most common cut. This type of cut is easy to pack and burns stably. All these features make it suitable for beginners – get it, pack it, set it on fire and you are already enjoying it. Its very easy to make. But the potential to withstand is small, check that it is hermetically packed, otherwise it will dry quickly. Packing: Easy Aging: Medium
Shag
Shag – very similar to Ribbon cutting, but with a slight difference – if the Ribbon is cut to about 1/16 inch, then this kind of cut is even thinner. Everything is also simple here – you take it out of the jar and you can immediately start smoking, since it also does not require any preparation. But due to the fact that it is very thinly cut, tobacco can dry out too quickly. In the post about Kiseru, where the user asked about this pipe, it is recommended to use this particular type of cutting. By the way, in cigarettes, they also use this type of cutting. Packing: Easy Aging: Low
Crumb Cake
Crumble Cake – this type of tobacco, it combines Ribbon and Plug cuts. It is cut into strips and then pressed. Packing: Moderate Aging: Medium
Plug
Plug – is a bar of pressed tobacco, which consists of a layer of different types of tobacco, which are subsequently heated and pressed. Since it is a pressed tobacco, the air exchange in it is minimal, which allows it to have a very good aging potential. Packing: Difficult Aging: High
Flake
Flake is tobacco cut mainly into rectangles, although it can also be of any shape. Usually Plug is used to cut it. Packing: Moderate Aging: High
Rope
Rope is the most expensive type to produce and is made from whole tobacco leaves. To get this “rope” – the tobacco leaf is twisted. The diameter is usually about 1 inch. Due to the tight twisting, air ingress is limited – which gives a good aging potential. Packing: Difficult Aging: High
Coins
Coin is a sliced Rope. Packing Difficulty: Aging Potential:
