With a 10:1 student-faculty ratio and small classes, the Department of Animal Sciences helps students develop the skills needed to succeed in 21st-century careers. The department also provides out-of-classroom learning opportunities in the form of internships on dairy farms and with agribusiness, technical services and consulting, research or teaching.
As a result of the growing importance of sustainable food systems, the department has expanded its offerings to include a graduate-level dairy science degree.
